Avoidant attachment
Some people value closeness yet feel uneasy when a relationship involves dependence or vulnerable conversations. Avoidance describes this tension, not an absence of feeling.
What you might notice
You might withdraw during conflict, prefer to solve problems alone, or feel crowded by requests for closeness. A need for time alone can also be an ordinary boundary, so context matters.
A practical starting point
If you need a pause, make it understandable: “I need some time to think, and I can return to this tonight.” This combines space with a clear way back into the conversation.
Keep the distinction clear
Attachment avoidance is not identical to sexual repression or an avoidant personality disorder. SRI and this questionnaire address different experiences; neither result determines the other.
